AW – suction channel

Flexible extraction hoses are often used for smoke extraction from moving devices and workstations—and just as often, they cause frustration.
For over 15 years, we have manufactured AW extraction ducts for our under-table extraction units equipped with extraction carts. The basic idea is a fixed duct equipped with extraction lips, between which an extraction opening equipped with knife-type openers moves.
The ducts are produced in three different sizes: S, L, and XL, depending on the extraction requirement. Correspondingly, the knife openers are custom-made based on airflow calculations. The longest individual duct lengths we have implemented are about 40 meters.
You can best understand the duct size by comparing the model letter to standard ventilation pipe sizes:

AW extraction duct S – can be fitted directly into the end plate with a diameter 125 outlet collar, or the duct can be purchased with a straight adapter for diameter 160 pipe size.
AW extraction duct L – can be fitted directly into the end plate with a diameter 200 outlet collar, or the duct can be purchased with a straight adapter for diameter 250 pipe size.
AW extraction duct XL – can be fitted directly into the end plate with a diameter 250 outlet collar, or the duct can be purchased with a straight adapter for diameter 315 pipe size.
Installation:
Depending on the required air volume and the length of the duct, the suction can be installed at only one end of the duct or at both ends.
The length of the knife opener always varies case by case according to the current needs and pressure requirements.
The basic structure of the knife opener always consists of a mounting plate with a suction opening, to which the openers moving between the lips are welded.
If the suction pressure is low, the openers are usually equipped with specially made closing rollers to minimize bypass airflow.
The customer can extend the structure as desired from the back side of the mounting plate or purchase it directly equipped for the desired pipe size.
The mounting plate also makes it easy to attach the knife opener to a moving target in front of the duct (below / above).
Manufacturing:

The ducts are made of galvanized steel sheet, and the XL model also has internal reinforcement to prevent the “jumping” effect caused by negative pressure through the lips.
The inside of the ducts is smooth, and any unnecessary supports or materials that cause pressure loss and noise have been avoided.
The suction lip can be selected from two types of very slick, low-friction materials according to the needs of the application.
The standard material is suitable for applications where there is no risk of external molten metal splatter, whereas for plasma downdraft tables we recommend the so-called “antiflammable” heat-resistant material (a new product introduced in autumn 2023).
