This story begins at the very start of the 20th century. Anyone even remotely familiar with welding will recognize the electrode label “OK” — those two letters stand for Oscar Kjellberg, a pioneer who changed the world by inventing the coated welding electrode.

What fewer people know is that this story, widely associated with Sweden, has a strong German chapter — one that is alive and thriving today, perhaps more than ever.

The company’s future was nearly lost after World War II, when Germany was divided and Kjellberg’s hometown of Finsterwalde ended up behind the Iron Curtain.
Yet, against the odds, the company survived the turbulent post-reunification years, and is now firmly structured as a foundation-owned and independently governed entity.

Today, Kjellberg’s plasma and cutting technologies are widely regarded as among the very best in the world.
Their solutions — particularly for cutting high-alloy (bright) materials — are nothing short of stunning in terms of precision and quality.

Did you know?
Kjellberg supplied massive volumes of welding consumables to Finnish shipbuilders constructing vessels for the Soviet Union.
At the time, it was the only manufacturer that met the Arctic-grade welding filler approvals required by our demanding eastern neighbor!
